Era Caterina Murzaku, the daughter of Alexander and Ines of Sparta, NJ will pursue a degree in Medicine at the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in Piscataway, NJ.
As a second grader, Ms. Murzaku wrote in an essay, "I like helping people when they need help. The most fun part of my job is keeping people healthy and always being there for somebody when they are sick." She has been deeply involved in basic research taking part in neuroimmunology and bioinorganic chemistry at Seton Hall University. While her understanding of medicine has grown she says, "I still hold steadfastly to my second grade conviction that 'I would like being a doctor when I grow up. I never want to leave this job!" |

Alex Arnouk, son of Dr. Munzer and Ms. Nada Arnouk of Wayne, NJ will pursue a degree in Medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA.
Mr. Arnouk, developed an interest in medicine at a very young age while accompanying his father on his hospital rounds and despite his father's attempts to discourage him to enter the profession; he discovered a passion for medicine that knew no bounds. |

Lindsay Anne Bacovin, daughter of Craig and Julianne Bacovin of Allentown, NJ will pursue a degree in Nursing at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA.
From a very early age she said that it was clear her future would be in the medical field. After her grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease she began to visit him in the nursing home. "I now know that geriatric nursing will be a perfect fit for me," says Ms. Bacovin |

Ashley Davis, the daughter of Jancy and Shawn Davis of Colonia, NJ will pursue a degree in medicine at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
"As a volunteer in the Neuroscience Department of John f. Kennedy Medical Center, I am trained to respond quickly whenever I hear the words 'Code Stroke in the Emergency Room.'" As doctors examine the patient, Ms. Davis records the times every procedure takes place. "I want to become a physician because I want to make a great impact on my community and the people around me. My community has done so much for me that I feel the need to give back to it. I want to open a clinic in an inner city to offer low cost medical care to those that so desperately need it." |

Heather Evankow, the daughter of Debbie and Joe Evankow of Colts Neck, NJ will pursue a Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy at Cedarville University in Cedarville OH.
"I've always wanted to be a Pharmacist. When I was a little girl, I remember going down to the pharmacy with my parents. Mr. Matthews, the pharmacist, had taken a liking to my brother and me and we would always leave with a little treat. He became my role model." Ms. Evankow has volunteered for the Colt's Neck first Aid Squad, is an active Girl Scout serving as the girl Representative on the Board of Directors for the girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. An Honor Student, Ms. Evankow has received numerous honors and said, "I'm excited about pursuing a career as a Pharmacist, broadening my life of service and leadership. Someday, I would like to travel with a medical team to third World Countries and do whatever I can to ease suffering." |

Emily Horton, daughter of Margaret Kiser of Flemington, NJ who will be pursuing a degree in Nursing at Radford University has had an interest in nursing since discussing career paths with a cousin who is a nurse at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.
She was also drawn to biology after dissecting a pig in her high school biology class. She has recently volunteered at a therapeutic riding center where she has worked with an autistic child as well as a 54 year old woman who is blind and has Parkinson's Disease.
Last summer she attended a camp for future nurses sponsored by the Hunterdon Medical Center, Rariton Valley Community College and Hunterdon Central High School's Polytech program. "This program sealed the deal for me; from that moment on I knew 100% that nursing was the career for me." |

Joshua Kronenfeld, son of Karen and Michael Kronenfeld of Manalapan, NJ will pursue a degree in Medicine at The University of Miami in Miami, FL.
Since his Junior year in High School, Mr. Kronenfeld has volunteered at CentraState Medical Center stocking shelves, aiding the doctors and nurses and patient triage and transport. He is also a certified First Responder with Manalapan's First Aid Squad. After spending the summer being mentored in the Jersey Shore University Medical Center operating room, he has developed an interest in cardiac and pediatric surgery. When asked, he says that "although my specialty may change, me drive to become a surgeon will not. Becoming a physician in order to serve the people in my community is my dream." |

Maureen Lynch, known as "Mo" to her friends and the daughter of Mike and Patty of Hillsborough, NJ will pursue a degree in Nursing at Villanova's College of Nursing in PA.
Ms. Lynch has served as a team organizer for the Susan G. Koman "Race for the Cure", assisted with the Eucharistic Ministry at local nursing homes and is a nominee for the National youth Leadership conference.
Ms. Lynch has been fascinated with anatomy and physiology since her Sophomore year at Hillsborough High School. She says that, "the most inviting aspect of a career in nursing is the tangible evidence one can recognize of the impact that I can have on the life of another person. Furthermore, nursing will sew my passion for physiology and my desire to improve the quality of life for others together seamlessly." |

Akeelah Leana Robinson, the daughter of Percy and Shirley Robinson of Hackensack, NJ will pursue a degree in Nursing at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.
Ms. Robinson is an honor student at her high school and volunteers for the Hackensack Hospital, her community's EMT Squad, is a life guard and participates in numerous sports and cultural activities.
As a child, Ms. Robinson suffered from scoliosis with a huge curve on the side of her back. After an eight hour surgery which straightened her back, she learned to walk again through the efforts of nurses and other hospital staff. "From that moment on I knew that I wanted to become a doctor and help others overcome emotional and physical challenges of life," says Ms. Robinson. "My ambition is far too great to succumb to failure," she said. |

Jennifer Slusarz, the daughter of Debbie and Ziggy Slusarz of Washington Township, NJ will pursue a degree in Nursing at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE.
"After a day of volunteering in the emergency room I was hooked. I had the feeling in my gut that I was going to become a nurse." Ms. Slusarz has been an active volunteer in the emergency room at Valley Hospital ever since her mother suffered a stroke in 2008 and she was with her. Not knowing what to do gave her the inspiration to begin researching various medical conditions and enter the field of nursing. She is thrilled to having discovered her passion for nursing at a very early age. |
Scholarships are awarded twice a year to applicants chosen by a committee comprised of members of the Board of Trustees as well as leaders in the community. The scholarships are awarded to the applicants who best demonstrate the sincerity, compassion and academic excellence necessary to become a truly effective healthcare professional.
