Mark Your Calendars --

The Joseph E. Enright Foundation sponsors events on a regular basis throughout the year.  Some of these are fundraisers and some are programs for the community.  Whether they be blood drives, art auctions, lectures or golf outings however, the events all seem to have a unique "Enright" chemistry that makes everyone involved feel right at home

          March 1st - Notifications regarding the scholarship awards will be sent out beginning today. All letters will be sent by March 20th.

          March 20th - "Colon Cancer Screening and Prevention" Colon cancer (also called colorectal cancer) is one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths in the United States. Because it often has no early symptoms, preventive screenings are key to curing this disease before it has a chance to progress. Learn about the risk factors involved, important diagnostic and preventive measures you need to take, and treatment options available.        April 24 - Deconstructing Alzheimer's and Brain Fitness  Presented by: Dr. Eric Cohen.Alzheimer's disease and memory loss affect more than 5 million Americans. Dr. Eric Cohen, Board Certified Neurologist, will provide an understanding and background into this progressive neurological disease.        May 6 - Vascular Health - Diagnosing and Preventing Stroke and Vascular Disease  Presented by: Dr. Nitzberg & Victor Zirul, Senior Vascular Lab Technician  Vascular disease can appear with or without symptoms in the form of carotid artery disease, abdominal aorta aneurysms, and peripheral arterial disease (PAD).         May 23rd - Our next fundraiser, Meet The Smithereens will take place at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn!  Get your tickets from the Paper Mill Playhouse early.  They are going fast!.. Tickets       

        June 3 -  Allergies and Asthma   Presented by: Dr. Kerry LeBenger  Almost 50 million children and adults suffer from some type of allergy. This lecture will explore why allergies are so prevalent in the US including both food and respiratory allergens.            February 7th -  "Heart Health - Beyond EKGs to Modern Diagnostics"  The newest technology in cardiac imaging and sonography provides improved diagnostic results while reducing invasive testing. This presentation will provide you with an intimate look at modern cardiac diagnostic testing and what you may expect should you be referred to a cardiologist.               December 31st - Deadline for the next round of scholarship applications (must be postmarked on or before).   

                 January 22nd - "Preventive Health Guidelines for Men and Women"   Preventive medicine is an essential part of maintaining your good health. It involves identifying risk factors and behaviors that can be changed before they cause disease. Join Dr. Robert Brenner, SMG Medical Director and Dr. Valerie Skrelja, SMG internist and learn about important preventive health guidelines for you and your family including immunizations, physical exams, cancer screenings and more. 7:00PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.                  December 4th - Prepare for the New Year -"Healthy Aging in 2008" with Sue Canonico, RD (Registered Dietician, SMG), Pat Dooher, manager of Appogee Spa at SMG and Richard Nelson, MD (Dept. of Internal Medicine, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.

                 November 6th - Find out more about those painful shoulder problems by coming to the lecture "Rotator Cuff Injuries" given by Matthew J. Garberina, MD (Dept. of Orthopedics, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.

         

             October 16th - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Keep yourself informed by attending  the lecture "Early Detection and Prevention of Breast Cancer" given by Lisa Mills, MD (Dept. of Oncology, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.

              October 1st - The Ninth Annual Joseph E. Enright Golf Invitational will be held at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield.  Click here for more details.      

 

              September 27thCelebrate National Prostate Awareness Month by attending the lecture "Prostate Health and Disease Prevention" given by Dr. John Siegal, MD (Dept. of Urology, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.

 

             August 31st - Notification of scholarship awards for those who applied by the June 30th deadline. All applicants will be notified regardless of whether they receive the award or not. Those who don't are welcome to reapply. (Letters will go out over the Labor Day weekend.) 

                June 30th - Deadline for the next round of scholarships.    

              May 15th - Avoid infections when you travel - "Travel Medicine" update by Redentor S. Mendiola, MD (Infectious Disease, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community    

                 April 17th - When the body works against you - Lectures on "Chiropractic Ergonomics" by James McDaid, DC (Complementary Medicine, SMG) and "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" by Reza Momeni, MD (Plastic Surgery, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.  

               March 22nd - Its official - diabetes is here in epidemic proportions - "Diabetes Update" lecture given by Dina Prus, MD (Endocrinology, SMG) and Margaret Eckler, RD, CDE, BC-ADM (Dietician, SMG) 7:15PM at the Education Center, Summit Medical Group, One Diamond Hill Road, Berkeley Heights.  Open to the community.

            March 13th - The first of the CME lectures made possible through a grant from Abbott Laboratories takes place at 6:45 in the Lawrence Pavilion at the Summit Medical Group. This lecture is  entitled  "Interventional Cardiology (Stents and CT Angiography)" by Dr Dan Schwartz.  (This lecture is for health professionals only)  

            March 1st - Notification of winter scholarship award winners completed by this date.

            February 6th More than 4 million Americans have had LASIK Eye Surgery to eliminate their need for glasses and contact lenses since its introduction in the 1990s. Come SEE what everyone is talking about!
