Smithereens To Perform At Benefit Concert
NJ's own classic rock band The Smithereens will be performing in a fundraising event "We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends" Friday May 23rd, at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Joseph E. Enright Foundation, a charitable healthcare organization based in Union County.
Their own success firmly established with chart hits and radio favorites in the 1980’s and 1990’s such as "Only a Memory", "A Girl Like You", "Blood & Roses", "Top Of The Pops" and "Miles From Nowhere", the band carries on the classic rock tradition by continuing to release new material and saluting their rock and roll heroes. Their 2007 hit album Meet The Smithereens was a tribute to the Fab Four’s first US release Meet The Beatles.
The concert will celebrate the bands critically acclaimed Beatles salute, and mark the concurrent release of their live greatest hits album on Koch Records..
Pat DiNizio, the band’s principal songwriter and lead singer (and lifelong resident of neighboring Scotch Plains) says, "We’re thrilled to be playing at this exciting event, and helping out this very worthwhile cause at the same time. We look forward to seeing all our fans coming out for the show."
The Joseph E. Enright Foundation, named for a departed and beloved physician at The Summit Medical Group, was established in 1999 and carries on its mission of "Health Through Education" via public support and fundraising events. Foundation President Dr. Richard Nelson commented: "we’re confident this event will be a great success. Not only will it enable us to continue providing health education programs and scholarships for the community, but it will also be a fantastic show; the Beatles are timeless and the Smithereens are a great band!

Summit Organization Only Union County NonProfit Chosen Statewide
Chatham, NJ, January 28, 2008 … Partnership in Philanthropy (PIP), a statewide nonprofit organization that provides counsel and practical assistance to other nonprofits, has selected Summit’s Joseph E. Enright Foundation as one of its 11 consultancy clients in the Garden State for 2007-2008. The Enright Foundation is the only nonprofit in Union County chosen for this latest consulting cycle.
According to PIP Executive Director Becky Dembo, the Enright Foundation reached out to the Chatham-based Partnership in Philanthropy for guidance in improving its fundraising capabilities and further developing its board. "The Joseph E. Enright Foundation is poised for the next level of success," she said. "We are ready to work with its staff and volunteer board members in advancing its efforts to fulfill its mission – that of creating and supporting public health education programs and awarding scholarships to exceptional candidates pursuing careers in health care."
PIP has assigned John Vadnais, principal of Morristown-based Seva Consulting Group, LLC, to work one-on-one with the Enright Foundation. The goal of the two-year consultancy is "to double the funds Enright raises within its 2009 fiscal year," Vadnais said. "It’s a realistic goal that is also an ambitious one. Our strategy is to formulate a communication plan and create a message based on the Foundation’s mission. From there, we will focus our energies on keeping the public aware and informed as to the value of Enright Foundation programs that educate the community, reinforcing the vital importance of promoting better health."
Vadnais continued, "We’re confident that once the communication portion of our strategy has been implemented, we will be better able to put into practice the fundraising efforts necessary to advance our mission."
Vadnais formed Seva Consulting Group in 2006 after a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Enright Foundation Board president Dr. Richard O. Nelson said, "The Board of Trustees of the Enright Foundation feels very fortunate to have been chosen by PIP to participate in their mentoring program. With PIP’s professional guidance, we have identified several important issues, and over the next year we hope to further strengthen our programs and our infrastructure while diversifying our donor base for greater stability as an organization."
The Joseph E. Enright Foundation was founded in 1999 by friends and colleagues of Dr. Enright, a committed young physician with the Summit Medical Group who died in 1996. It serves Central to Northern New Jersey by providing health lectures and educational programs to the general public and making educational scholarships available to exceptional individuals pursuing careers in the field of patient-centered healthcare, both supported exclusively by donations from the public.
The community lecture series and educational programs offer attendees the opportunity to participate in discussions on healthcare topics and to interact with physicians, health professionals and other community members. The lecture schedule and details are available on the Enright website, www.josephenrightfoundation.org. The Enright scholarships are another key part of the organization’s mission, awarded semi-annually to area applicants who best demonstrate the sincerity, compassion and academic excellence necessary to become effective patient-centered healthcare professionals. Continuing Medical Education lectures accredited through Atlantic Health allow physicians and other health professionals to enhance their knowledge base, improve practices and ultimately offer better care to patients.
