Joseph E. Enright Foundation
Health Education Scholarship

The Joseph E. Enright Foundation is pleased to offer scholarships for education in the field of healthcare. There are at least five scholarships that will be awarded twice a year, as determined by the Foundation’s annual budget, to applicants chosen by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. The scholarships are awarded to eligible students based primarily on the strength of the essay portion of the application, but the entire application is taken into consideration during the review process.

Eligibility

Anyone who resides in the communities served by the Enright Foundation is eligible to apply for a scholarship. (Individuals who have been awarded a scholarship are not permitted to apply for a second scholarship.) The applicant must be at least 17 years of age. The scholarship funds are to be applied only to education in the field of healthcare. (See below)

Award

Beginning with the June 2007 review, the amount of the scholarships is $1000. The number of scholarships to be awarded is subject to change at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. The awards are to be applied to pre-approved costs only. No scholarships will be given for courses that have been completed or are in progress at the time of application. The award must be used within 1 year from the date of notification.

Timing and Selection

Applications may be submitted at any time during the year but not more than 6 months before the beginning of the course or program. They will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees twice a year - in June and December - and applicants will be notified in writing of the decision of the Board. The scholarships are awarded based on the information provided in the application however, the essay section weighs heavily in the selection process. Please be sure to be complete and to fill out the entire application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Deadlines for applications are June 30th and December 31st. Applications postmarked after these dates will be considered for the next review.

Eligible Programs

The scholarship money can be applied only to tuition costs associated with participation in a program of study in the healthcare field. The program or course must be at an accredited institution or facility. The studies must be done in the course of working toward a certificate or degree awarded by that institution or facility.

The final certificate or degree must be directly related to healthcare (i.e. radiology technician and nursing programs are eligible but pre-med programs or hospital administration studies are not). Short courses for renewable certificates such as ACLS or Basic CPR, continuing medical education and review courses are not covered. The board reserves the right to exclude any program or course from eligibility at its discretion.

Upon completion of the field of study, recipient must present to the Foundation evidence of satisfactory completion of the coursework covered by the scholarship funds. Scholarship recipients acknowledge that failure to submit such evidence will result in forfeiture of all scholarship funds and all funds received will be expected to be returned to the Foundation.

Miscellaneous

There is no preference given to any applicant on the basis of gender, race, class, economic status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, age, physical ability and cultural or religious background. Enright Foundation employees, Board of Trustees members and their families are ineligible.

There are limited resources with which to fund the scholarships and while it is the intention of the Foundation to provide as many as possible, not all applicants can be awarded a scholarship. If you are turned down for a scholarship, please understand these constraints and feel free to apply again.

Any questions can be directed to any of our board members or call or email us - we're happy to help!
